Grants of up to $40,000 to Georgia nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for community service programs. Eligible programs may align with one of the following areas of focus: children and youth, arts, environment, culture, and community services. Priority is primarily intended for organizations in Atlanta and DeKalb County.

  • Children and Youth: Support for early childhood education, after school and summer programs for Elementary and Middle School Students, and programs that enhance success in public schools
  • Community Services: Support for community services that provide a safety net for those in greatest need, including those with special needs
  • Arts, Culture, and Environment: Support for innovation with a focus on initiatives that build organizational sustainability - By Invitation Only

Estimated Size of Grant:

The average grant size is in the range of $20,000 - $40,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

-The Foundation will only consider requests from organizations classified as a public charity under Section 501-c-3 of the Internal Revenue Service. An IRS determination letter certifying this tax status will be required.
-Before contacting the Foundation, an organization must have at least one full-time employee and broad support from its own base of supporters, including board members, and have been in operation providing programs and services for a minimum of two years.
-Proposals will not be accepted from private primary or secondary schools, except for those serving children with special needs.
-Proposals will not be accepted from individual churches.
-Grants are not considered to start-up operations.
-The foundation does not make grants for annual appeals or special events.
-No grants or loans will be made to individuals.
-No grants are made outside the state of Georgia.

Pre-Application Information:

The Foundation will have two grant cycles in 2020 - Friday, January 10th and Monday, August 10th are the deadlines. Please note that the Letter of Inquiry is the required first step for our grant making process. We encourage early submission.

You will hear back by February 15 for the spring cycle and September 15 for the fall cycle.

The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals from arts, culture, and environmental organizations. The Foundation will not issue requests for proposals in 2020.

Organizations may only apply to the Foundation every 12 months. This is true whether a previous grant request was approved or declined.

Application Process:

Step One:
Letter of Inquiry: All organizations interested in applying for a grant in the Children and Youth or Community Services Areas of Interest should submit a Letter of Inquiry. Arts, Culture, and Environment proposals are accepted By Invitation Only.

Step Two:
Meeting: If the Letter of Inquiry is approved, Foundation staff will contact the organization to schedule a meeting.

Step Three:
Submission of Grant Application: Following the meeting, Foundation staff will recommend to the organization whether to submit a formal grant application.
