Grants of $5,000 to USA filmmakers of South Asian descent to create documentary films. Funding is intended to support the production of creative and high-quality films that inspire social change. Film scripts must be ready to produce. Preference will be given to scripts with a social justice theme and based on the South Asian diaspora experience.

Tasveer is excited to present the 2nd year of the Tasveer Film Fund (TFF). This year, TFF will give out 3 grants to South Asian filmmakers in the US towards making a short film, a documentary, and an LGBTQIA+ film. 

Pitch Day:

  • The Fund will be hosting live pitching sessions during the Tasveer Festival in October 2021! The top 3 finalists within each category of the grants will be invited to pitch their short film, LGBTQ+ film, or their documentary treatment.
  • Date: TBD between October 4-15th

The Film Fund money must only be used towards the production budget of the short film, and cannot be re-assigned for any other purpose. Consideration may be given to schedules affected due to COVID-19.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

TFF will give out 3 grants to South Asian filmmakers in the US towards making a short film, a documentary, and an LGBTQIA+ film.
- Filmmakers must be based in the U.S. and with a U.S. bank account in order to receive funds.
- Filmmaker must be of South Asian descent.

Short Film
- The short film script must be between 5 and 20 pages in length
- The grant is only for filmmakers of South Asian descent living within the United States.
- The short film must include South Asian representation in the story as well as in the cast/crew.
- Grantee film must be fully produced and finished in time to screen at the next annual TSAFF. Exception is available on request.

- The grant is only for filmmakers of South Asian descent living within the United States
- Preferred length is 60 min and under, though exceptions are available.
- One grant of $5,000 to a filmmaker with a documentary proposal ready to produce. Here is a sample of a documentary proposal.
- Must be non-fiction
- Documentary must be beyond the conception stage, and must be in production and/or post -production stage
- Include a trailer or clip to show the general direction of your documentary (required)

- The scriptwriter-director must identify as an LGBTQIA+ individual, of South Asian origin.
- The topic of the film must be an LGBTQIA+ story.
- Grantee film must be fully produced and finished in time to screen at the next annual TSAFF. Exceptions available upon request.

The script/story cannot be discriminatory against people of any background, ethnicity, religion, race, sexuality, or gender.

- Pitch Day for finalists: TBD (between October 4-15th). Your Pitch Day date and time will be provided at least two weeks before the event if you are selected as a finalist. Finalists must complete a 10 minute or less live pitch in order to be considered for an award.

The grants will be announced during the Tasveer Festival between October 10-24 and must be fully produced and finished in time to screen at the next annual TSAFF.

Submission Fees:
- Regular Deadline: Standard: $15
- Late Deadline: Standard: $30
Submission fees are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the submission.
