Grants of up to $2,000 to Georgia public middle school teachers in the funding source's service area for innovative and creative classroom projects that benefit students in grades 6 to 8. Funding is intended to support teacher-developed projects that are not funded through general education funds. Jackson EMC’s service area includes the following counties: Jackson, Gwinnett, Barrow, Hall, Lumpkin, Banks, Franklin, Madison, Oglethorpe, Clarke.

Projects must involve students directly, provide a creative learning experience through innovative teaching methods, provide ongoing benefits to the students, create opportunities for teamwork, and support the continuous improvement of education in Georgia. Grants are open to all subjects.

Selection Criteria for projects:

  • Provides innovative and creative learning experiences for students.
  • Increase interest and elevate the level of learning, teaching, and the overall educational experience.
  • Provides defined goals and learning objectives.
  • Benefits a greater number of students year after year.
  • Provides ongoing uses in the classroom for students.
  • Supports the continuous improvement of education in Georgia.
  • Project funding is not otherwise available.

Grant funds should be used within the academic school year awarded.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants will be awarded to state-certified middle school teachers instructing students in grades 6, 7, or 8 in a public middle school in Jackson EMC's service area. For a list of eligible schools, see https://www.jacksonemc.com/community/youth-education/bright-ideas/application-process#eligible.

Grant requests will not be considered for the following: professional development, field trips, student fees, salaries, incentives, furniture, Smart Boards, or PCs /laptops. Grant requests for printers, software, or hand-held electronic tablet-like devices must be program-related.

Pre-Application Information:

All applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. Sept. 7, 2021.

Bright Ideas grant recipients will be notified and checks will be delivered to middle schools during the month of October or November.

Teachers may apply for one grant per academic year and applications must be approved by a school principal.

All applications must be completed and received online using this automated form. No handwritten applications will be accepted.
