Grants to Atlanta Area, Georgia nonprofit organizations for programs and projects that address critical needs in the areas of social services and animal welfare. Applicants who submit an LOI for the upcoming September 30 deadline may be invited to submit a full proposal for the following March 31 deadline.

Consideration will be given to proposals in the areas of children’s services, senior services, animal welfare, and services to those at-risk due to difficult social circumstances or serious health issues. Types of support include capital campaigns, program development, seed money, and matching funds.

The May P. & Francis L. Abreu Charitable Trust funds organizations in the Atlanta area only. The Foundation does not approve requests for operating or grants to individuals.

Applicants must provide a copy of their organization's 501(c)(3) determination letter.

The May P. and Francis L. Abreu Charitable Trust has two deadlines: March 31 and September 30.

Prior to submitting a full proposal, it is required to submit a letter of inquiry in order to determine the potential eligibility of the request.

If the Trust determines that the proposed project is eligible for consideration then the applicant will be contacted and asked to complete the application for review during the next grant cycle.

There is no deadline to submit a letter of inquiry, however, letter of inquiries will be reviewed at the next board meeting, typically 3-4 weeks after the application deadline. At which time, if the board determines the applicant is eligible for consideration then the applicant will be asked to provide a full proposal to be reviewed at the next board meeting. During this phase a representative of the Trust might ask for a site visit in order to gain more knowledge of the project.

For Example: If the applicant submits a letter of inquiry in January, the letter will be reviewed AFTER the March 31st application deadline during the semi-annual board meeting in mid to late April. If the board determines the applicant is eligible for consideration then the applicant will be contacted and asked to submit a grant request to be reviewed at the fall board meeting.

Please note that full proposals are accepted by invitation only.
