Grants to USA, Canada, and International organizations and institutions to provide services to elderly Holocaust survivors, and for Holocaust education, research, documentation, and films. Funding is intended to provide care for Jewish Holocaust victims and to ensure that future generations learn the lessons of the Holocaust.

Social Services

In social services, the main priorities include: homecare/housekeeping services, case management, food programs, transportation, health and medical-related services, emergency assistance programs, and socialization programs.

Certain limited capital projects may be considered for minor capital improvements that directly facilitate the delivery of social services to Nazi victims in economically distressed countries.

Shoah Research, Education, Documentation, and Film - Areas eligible for funding include:

  • Archival Cataloging and Accessibility Projects
  • Educational Programs (particularly in countries with weak infrastructure for Shoah education)
  • Educator Training Programs for In-Service Educators (including with visits to Holocaust-related sites)
  • Exhibitions
  • Films
  • Research & Publications

Priority will be given to projects in parts of the world with weak infrastructure for Shoah-related education.

Film Grants: Funding will be considered for Development, Production, or Post-Production.

Estimated Size of Grant:

For Social Services: Certain limited capital projects will be funded, not to exceed $10,000 on a matching basis.

For Films: For development grants, the Claims Conference will generally consider funding up to $20,000. For production and post-production, the Claims Conference will generally consider funding up to $60,000. However, in no case will the Claims Conference consider funding more than 50% of any project phase.

Term of Contract:

Shoah Research, Education, Documentation, and Film: Programs outside of Holocaust-dedicated institutions will be funded for no more than 3 years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Claims Conference grants are specifically for organizations that assist Jewish Nazi victims and projects that promote research, education & documentation of the Shoah. Generally, the Claims Conference does not provide direct funding to individuals to enable participation on trips to sites of Nazi atrocities.

Restrictions:
- The Claims Conference does not fund 100% of the cost of any project. For capital projects, contributions do not exceed 50%;
- The Claims Conference does not underwrite running costs of institutions;
- The Claims Conference does not underwrite deficits;
- At this time, the Claims Conference is NOT accepting any applications for Institutional capital projects. The Claims Conference previously funded capital projects for Institutions only in Israel.

Pre-Application Information:

Application Deadlines:
- April 1 at 11:59 pm Eastern Time (for the grant period beginning in December 2020) for Film & Research, Education & Documentation Projects
- June 1 for Social Welfare Projects
- The following deadline is: October 1 for all projects.

If the application deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the application will be due the first business day immediately following the deadline date.

Applications will be available 4-6 weeks prior to each deadline. For Film Grants, the online submission form will become available 8 weeks prior to the application deadlines. Upon receipt of an application, an acknowledgment email is sent to the applicant. The application review and approval process takes between 6-8 months.

Shoah Research, Education, Documentation, and Film: The Claims Conference will fund up to 40% of a project’s total cost with the grantee securing the remaining sources of funding.

Film Grants: Should a grant be awarded, funding is released in the form of reimbursement of expenses incurred. You must submit any paid receipts and/or paid invoices associated with the grant request in order to receive the funds. For production and post-productions grants, the Claims Conference may withhold 10%-15% of the grant amount until receipt of the completed film.
