Grants of $500 to Georgia farmers in eligible counties that sell produce at farm stands or farmers markets for the purchase of reusable shopping bags to distribute to their customers. In addition to the cash grant, grantees will receive reusable shopping bags for distribution to shoppers. Eligible farmers are located in Calhoun, Baker, Clay, Chattahoochee, Dougherty, Decatur, Grady, Early, Miller, Lee, Marion, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, and Webster Counties.

Fresh from the Farm grants allow Southwest Georgia Farm Credit to partner with local farmers markets to promote and support farmers who own and operate produce stands that sell locally-grown products.

The Fresh from the Farm initiative gives ten grants each year.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Each grant recipient will receive a check for $500 and 250 reusable shopping bags for distribution to their market shoppers.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are made to farmers who own and operate qualifying produce stands.

To apply for this grant, each applicant:

- Must produce some portion of products sold at Farmers Market/Produce Stand.
- Must be located in the 21-county Association territory (Baker, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, Webster)
- Must be open a minimum of 20 days per calendar year.
- Must agree to participate in promotional opportunities with Southwest Georgia Farm Credit (i.e. – Story for local newspapers / Wiregrass Land & Living, visit from news media, etc.).
- Must agree to accept Southwest Georgia Farm Credit reusable shopping bags to use for bagging produce/products for shoppers.
